Do I Need a Lawyer for my Spotsylvania Reckless Driving Charge?

If you’re charged with reckless driving in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, you really need to talk to a local experienced traffic lawyer. As you’ve probably learned by now, reckless driving is a class 1 misdemeanor. It’s not your average ordinary traffic ticket. It won’t just bump your insurance premiums. Reckless driving could have serious consequences depending on your job, your driving record, and the facts of the case.

I won’t tell you that you have to hire a lawyer. That’s simply not true. Hiring a lawyer depends upon the facts of your case, and it doesn’t make sense in every case quite obviously. Some people can get a pretty good result in court without having an attorney. However, I do recommend at least talking with a lawyer. You’ll not know what’s going to happen in court unless you talk with somebody who’s been there. This means that talking with your friend or your neighbor is not the same as talking with a local, experienced, traffic attorney who regularly handles reckless driving cases in Spotsylvania. Your friend and neighbor may have had a reckless driving case before and it may have even been in Spotsylvania, but one case is no guide for how the average case will be handled. One case especially does not give you a good indicator of what will happen in your unique case.

In some few cases of reckless driving in Spotsylvania, jail time is a threat. However, that typically only happens in cases where you’re charged with a high speed, such as 100 mph or more. Attorneys who use jail as a scare tactic to get clients infuriate me.

However, having an attorney can help you get a better outcome than not having an attorney. For example, in some cases your record might not qualify to get a break down to a regular speeding ticket with driving school. But if we can work out a deal with the officer to get a break, then that would be a much better outcome than being found guilty of reckless driving. Working out an officer agreement in Spotsylvania can be difficult without having a lawyer.

If you haven’t talked with a local, experienced, traffic lawyer who handles reckless driving cases in Spotsylvania County, please give me a call. If you’re not comfortable giving me a call yet, download a copy of my book about reckless driving. It’s free and it’ll give you some insight into what possible outcomes you might expect and it’ll also tell you a lot more about me and about the kind of work that I do.
