If you get a traffic ticket or misdemeanor charge, everyone’s going to have advice. But you need to talk with an experienced attorney to know for sure what to do.

Hello, I’m Andrew Flusche, a Virginia traffic attorney. If you’re facing any kind of traffic or misdemeanor offense, you really need to talk to an attorney. Your family and friends and coworkers are going to have a lot of opinions on what may be possible in the case, or what might happen, or what has happened in past cases that they had or a friend of theirs had. But you really need to talk to somebody who has actually been trained and has experience in dealing with the kind of case that you’re facing in the court you’re facing.

One great example that I like to use is a lot of people get charged with driving on suspended, and they may not know they’re suspended. Some people think that if they simply get their license fixed and come back to court, that their charge will be dropped against them because their license is no longer suspended. Some of your friends may even tell you that. The problem is, while that may happen in some courts, it definitely doesn’t happen automatically in the courts where I practice around the Fredericksburg area.

Simply getting your license fixed may help the case, in fact it does help the case, but it does not make the case go away. It’s not an automatic dismissal. It’s not the same as an inspection ticket, or something of that nature, where if you get it fixed, a lot of times the judge will dismiss it. Driving on suspended is a misdemeanor and it just doesn’t go away that easily.

That’s a great example of why you really need to talk to an attorney who regularly handles traffic cases in the area where your case in pending. Because while your friends and family are great supports and I applaud you working with them and talking with them, and they can be a great help on your case, they simply aren’t knowledgeable in the law as much as a local traffic attorney would be. So do yourself a favor and call an attorney.
