Threatening the Police Didn’t Help Randy Travis
I always say that you should be nice to law enforcement officers. If you don’t, it can make your case much worse.
That’s what happened when country singer Randy Travis was arrested for DWI in North Texas.
Apparently he went into a convenience store naked, asking to buy cigarettes. He left when the clerk questioned how he would pay for them. Then a Texas State Trooper found Travis due to 911 calls of a vehicle accident.
At some point during the encounter, Travis allegedly threatened to kill the troopers who were involved. Now instead of just facing a DWI charge, he’s also facing a felony for “retaliation.”
What a mess!
The same situation could happen in Virginia. If you make a threat of bodily harm to an officer in Virginia, you could be charged with the felony version of obstruction of justice. Definitely not a road you want to go down.
You don’t have to do all the tests the officer asks. But being a jerk isn’t going to get you anywhere.
