[VIDEO] International Student Reckless Driving Defense

If you are an international student and you were charged with reckless driving, you’re in the right place. This video and article explains what we can hopefully do together to avoid a criminal conviction in your case.

Any time a person with immigration concerns is accused of a crime in Virginia, you definitely need to be very cautious about how you handle the situation. Reckless driving is in fact a criminal offense that you’re accused of. It’s not just a traffic ticket like speeding or something like that. It is a misdemeanor, and you need to be sure to treat it seriously.

One big caveat I have to give before we go into the details about how you might handle a reckless driving case as an international student: you need to talk with an immigration lawyer as well as a solid traffic defense attorney. Only an immigration lawyer can properly advise you about how a misdemeanor conviction or charge might affect your immigration status or your student visa status.

As I mentioned above, reckless driving in Virginia is a misdemeanor, and so, even if you are charged with a simple speed reckless driving for something like driving 20 or more miles an hour over the limit, you definitely should give me a call today so we can discuss what defenses you may have available. There are several different ways we can address a reckless driving charge and try to maybe beat the charge completely, have it dismissed by the judge, or maybe at least have it reduced to something like speeding or improper driving so it has a lesser impact on your record.

One of the main tools in the Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George area for fighting a reckless driving charge is having you do a driver improvement class to get a break from the judge. Be sure to talk to me before you do this, however, because it might not work in your case, or you might not be eligible for a driver improvement school in your situation. But, in many cases, I can help you take care of the case by having you go to a driver improvement school to get the charge reduced to a minor speeding offense or maybe even having it completely dismissed altogether.

Even if you are a student and on a short budget, there still may be ways we can work together to try to handle the case in a good manner. I know you’re trying to pay for everything that you have to take care of to continue with your studies, but don’t let that stop you from contacting my office to discuss your case and how we can work together. I offer free consultations over the phone for reckless driving cases in my area, and, if your case is outside my area, we can hopefully connect you with one of our referral partners who might be able to assist in your case and would normally also offer you a free consultation.

As you can see, if you are an international student who is facing a reckless driving charge in Virginia, you definitely need to act today so we can help try to handle the case to get a good result in court. Don’t delay since time is of the essence and it is important to try to prevent a misdemeanor conviction. I look forward to talking with you!
