Hello, my name is Andrew Flusche. I’m your Virginia traffic attorney and I’m here today to answer a question about how often do people actually get jail for reckless driving in Virginia. It happens more often than you would think. I would venture to say that probably every day in the Commonwealth of Virginia, someone is going to jail for reckless driving in our state.
If you didn’t realize already, reckless driving there are about a dozen different varieties of reckless driving in Virginia. The 2 most common ones that people end up with are reckless driving failure to maintain proper control, and reckless driving for speed. The reckless driving by speed statute is the main one that I see people receiving jail time on, at least in the Fredericksburg area. Depending on the area that your ticket is in, you may be looking at jail in your case. The best way to understand whether or not you’re facing a risk of jail is to call me.
