Fredericksburg Business License – You Need One

If you are planning to operate a business in the city of Fredericksburg, you need a business license. Unlike Spotsylvania County business licenses, Fredericksburg doesn’t have an exemption if you expect low gross receipts. Fortunately, it’s easy to get your Fredericksburg business license.
Business license process
- Download the Application for New Fredericksburg City Business License. This is a handy PDF that you can fill out on your computer.
- Estimate the gross receipts of your business. If your gross receipts will be under $50,000, you simply pay $25. If your gross receipts will be over $50,000, you must calculate your fee due based on the rate for your business type.
- Fill out the application, pay the fee, and send everything in to the city of Fredericksburg.
Tax exemptions
Two classes of businesses do get an exemption from the business license tax requirement. But they still have to submit a completed Business License Application to the city and ensure that other paperwork is on file with the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office.
- Non-profit organizations that are officially recognized as 501(c)(3) exempt entities.
- Contractors that are doing a small job in Fredericksburg and have a business license from another locality.
